The Chula Vista Rangers would like to make all parents and players aware of a recent decision made by three members of the Chula Vista City Council that will have a direct effect on all youth clubs.
Without contacting and soliciting input from the Youth Sports Council or the Parks Commission, Councilmen Rudy Ramirez, Steve Castaneda and Pat Aguilar, have decided to combine the Parks and Recreation Department with the Library. By doing so they are able to eliminate one position in order to save money.
Unfortunately for us, the position they chose was not from the Parks and Rec. Dept.; thus leaving the combined departments under the control of a Librarian.
Yes, that’s right; we will now be governed by a Librarian.
With the economy the way it is, we can all understand the need for cut backs, but they need to be well thought out and justified. Our teams and players pay for the use and maintenance of the fields and we help keep several parks clean to help the city. This decision could not have been studied for any length of time.
We encourage all of you to contact these Councilmen and let them know that their decision was not the right one for the kids of their city, and that the fields need to remain under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department....not the Library.
