Sean Aucion and Oscar Sanchez let their feet do the talking this weekend, each scoring a goal to lift their Chula Vista Rangers BU13 Red team to a 2-0 shutout to Kodiak and the championship title of the Rangers’ first annual Reindeer Invitational over the weekend.
The Rangers were forced to play with 11 players all weekend, and at times a man down due to injuries. Without substitutes available to provide much-needed breaks, the boys rose to the challenge and played with tremendous heart.
"The boys played extremely well,” Rangers Coach Jesus Acevedo said. “My hat goes off to them as they made this weekend a memorable one.”
Coach Acevedo took over this team in November and has quickly made an impact, leading his team to their first tournament victory. The Rangers wrapped up the weekend undefeated, scoring 11 goals while succumbing just three.
“I saw a lot of chemistry, good passing, and 100 percent effort,” said Fernando Aparicio, a Ranger parent and avid team supporter.
Earlier in the day, the Rangers advanced to the finals following a 3-2 win over Kodiak in pool play. Aucion, Luis Banuelos and Marcos Sanchez each added a point to the scoreboard in what was described as a very exciting and close game.
Prior to that, Rangers faced La Mesa Matrix and came out victorious with a final score of 4-1. Oscar Sanchez scored a pair of goals for the Rangers with Alan Vidrio and Richard Gonzalez both adding one to the mix. Aucion and Sanchez began the weekend on fire, each scoring to give the Rangers the 2-1 victory over Rebels. Alexander Aviles assisted Aucion’s goal in the finals.
