The Chula Vista Rangers boys U14 White went undefeated and scored a championship at the first ever Beach Soccer Jam tournament on Sunday, April 26 at Fiest Island.
With great weather and a relaxed atmosphere, the Rangers ended the day with four victories and zero defeats. Total goals scored over the weekend were 29 goals for and 19 against. They started off Sunday with a solid 11-6 win versus the La Costa Matrix. Vincent Acevedo led the game with 3 goals, while Steven Jaramillo and Robert White each had two. Additional goals came from Jose Salcedo, Jonathan Bueno, Robert Gutierrez and Daniel Valenzuela.
In the second game, they faced a Hotspurs team and were victories 13-4. Vincent Acevedo and Jose Salcedo led the game with 3 goals, while Steven Jaramillo, Daniel Valenzuela, and Eddie Vargas each had two. Additional goals came from Robert White.
In the third match of the day, they faced La Mesa Matrix in a battle and were victorious by a score of 6 to 5.
In this game, Eric Belandres had an amazing game scoring 5 goals to lead the team to victory. The additional goal came from Steven Jaramillo.
In the Championship game, they once again faced off against La Mesa Matrix.
The Championship game was a very good game, as was the previous match. The first 10 minutes was a 0-0 tie. The lead kept changing back and fourth during the game as the teams battled it out on the sand. Michael Schmidt and Robert Gutierrez did an outstanding job playing goalkeeper during the tournament and in the championship they had some great saves. Eric Belandres lead the team with two goals, Jose Salcedo had one goal and Vincent Acevedo scored the winning goal with less then two minutes remaining. The final score was 4-3 with Chula Vista Rangers being crowned champions.
Coach Jesus Acevedo summed up the day. “It was a great day, great weather and the boys and family members had a great time. The atmosphere and pressure was noticeably different than a normal tournament and the main idea was to come out and have fun.”
